Mileage estimation & tax export

Barkerway doesn't track your location. Every mile is estimated from the addresses on your bookings — here's how that figure gets built, and how to get it out for your tax return.

  1. Set your home base once

From Mileage & home base in Settings, set your home address. Every day's route starts and ends there.

  2. The day's distance follows your pickup order

For each day, the estimate is built automatically: home → each pet's home, in the order you've arranged bookings on the Schedule → an optional predefined walk destination and back → home. Reorder the day's bookings and the estimate recalculates.

  3. Open a day to see the breakdown

From Mileage, tap into any day. A day with a walk at a destination looks like: drive to the first pet (2.1 mi), an out-and-back to the walk spot (a round trip, e.g. 4.8 mi), then pets seen at home along the way add nothing extra, then the drive home. Each leg is listed separately, ending in a day total.

  4. Correct any leg by hand

Every driving figure is editable — tap it and enter the real distance if the estimate is off for a particular day.

  5. HMRC's rate is applied automatically

The simplified mileage rate — 45p/mile for your first 10,000 business miles in the tax year, 25p/mile after — is applied for you on the Mileage page. You don't need to work it out yourself.

  6. Export when you're ready to file

Use Export Report on Mileage for the tax year you need. It covers everything from your Pro start date onward, since mileage tracking is a Pro feature.
